Complete Control - Part 5

The event was great fun, and for more info on it, check out my major Las Vegas trip report. I can't tell you how I did, but I can tell you that Complete Control will be on Battlebots on January 2nd on Comedy Central. Here are a few shots of the goods (and the bads) after everything was said and done. Big thanks to Charles Carns (BIGCHUCK on the Forum) for being a great help at the event, and Ilya and his crew for lending a hand when stuff got crazy -- apparently they're used to it.

The forks looking a little beat up. The orange paint showed damage very, very well. You can see some puncture wounds through the chromoly tubing, as well as some scars on my pneumatic cylinder. It isn't visable, but the underside of the forks suffered some pretty rough kill-saw damage. They are still reusable, and I'll have em patched up for the next event. (Yes, Complete Control will be returning!) The cylinder isn't looking or working too hot anymore, seeing as how the wall is not only gouged, but bashed in. It still works, but I am worried about the integrity of the seals on the piston, as it sticks quite badly in transit. I think I'll get a new one.
A piece of aerospace composite that I traded a t-shirt for. Big thanks to Jason from the Infernolab for swinging me such a great deal! It really saved my robot in one particular fight. You can see the severe damage it took. you can also see a broken off chisel that it decided to keep. Also visable: zip-tie attachment method, and an Infernolab decal.
A Pittman motor that has seen better days. Note to self: do not run at double voltage. Especially, do not run at double voltage with increased brush spring pressure. Oh well, in times of desparation, deparate measures must me taken. BTW: this little beauty here smells much, much worse than you imagine.
My workshop upon returning home. I did clean it up eventually. Some cool things visable in this picture:
- Pressure Drop's frame against the back wall
- Son of Smashy on the table
- PD's armour in the vise
- All three of my home-made crates
- 3 2.5" bore 5" stroke Ebay pneumatic cylinders
- 5 hp Snap-On compressor
- An Osiris shoe box, from my girlfriend's D3's.
- a 1978 Datsun 200SX 5 speed transmission, with an airshifting system installed.

That pretty much sums up how Complete Control came together, for the first time. I am currently rebuilding CC for the next Battlebots competition (no, I don't know when it is yet). Keep on roboting, and have fun! - Derek.
